Dear Prospective Parents, Students and Friends,
Happy New Year to you.
We have had a very busy Fall making preparations for the opening of San Juan Diego Catholic Regional High School.
Meetings with advisors, attorneys, architects, contractors, donors, various committees and supporters have taken up the time. All meetings have been very productive. We even have our school crest, school colors and uniforms decided! We are still working on a motto. A local Public Relations firm has been assisting us with creating a "brand" and updating our Web site.
As well as things have progressed, the financial difficulties that we all are facing have affected our efforts to meet our opening as previously scheduled.
Opening a new Catholic high school was a tremendously challenging project even before the economy started its downward spiral. Given the uncertainty in the U.S. economy and our neighboring economy in Mexico, it seemed prudent to postpone the opening until August 2010.
This will certainly cause some disappointment for parents and students who were anticipating enrolling for classes in August 2009. We, too, share this disappointment, but we would rather be disappointed and have a financially viable school than to open and risk a financially unstable future.
One benefit from this deferred opening will be the opportunity to continue our "friend" raising and fundraising for another year. Despite the economic challenges, I believe we will be in a better financial position at the end of this academic year.
We will provide periodic updates to keep you informed as to our progress. Future updates will detail our master plan for facilities, our modular, transitional campus, our curriculum and course offerings as well as introducing our initial sports and co-curricular programs.
Please keep our efforts in your prayers as we get closer to the opening of the upper Valley's first comprehensive Catholic high school.
